Lycée - Understanding SELMA

Voici une courte vidéo pour mieux comprendre ce qui s'est passé à Selma, Alabama, il y a 50 ans de cela (collégiens, s'abstenir!), lorsqu'une marche pacifique en faveur d'un réel droit de vote pour tous les Afro-américains a été attaquée par la police. Cet évènement tristement célèbre est depuis appelé Bloody Sunday.

Tous niveaux - Pronunciation

Pour vous entraîner avec les sons de l'anglais parfois difficiles à prononcer et ainsi gagner en aisance et fluidité, il existe un moyen plutôt amusant: les nursery rhymes et les tongue twisters.

Les nursery rhymes sont des petits poèmes et comptines qui, en apparence très simples et écrits à l'intention des enfants, cachaient parfois une critique de la société, d'un monarque...

Les tongue twisters sont des phrases associant des sons difficiles à enchaîner, dans le même style que les fameuses chaussettes de l'archiduchesse...

Here are a few examples of auditions for a reality show that you can use to train for your own audition. Watch the videos, try and pick up expressions, ideas, behaviours, intonations ... that you could use or copy on the day of your oral exam. Practise repeating them, and compare your audition to the original one.

2ndes - NEW YORK - THE GOLDEN DOOR?

Here is the link to the extract from the film Golden Door, starring Charlotte Gainsbourg and relating the journey of Italian immigrants to the USA at the turn of the 20th century. In this extract, they have just arrived at Ellis Island and are undergoing the different inspections. Bear the text "The Ellis Island Experience" in mind as you watch the video.

 

Get ready for class:
What scenes can you recognize from the text? What are the main steps immigrants have to go through?
How are the immigrants treated by the staff?
How do they react?
If you had been an immigrant, how would you have reacted? What impressions do you get from the video and the text? Develop and give arguments.
